Maintenance Strategy Development – Rail Engineering

Maintenance Strategy Development – Rail Engineering

THE CHALLENGE:

During a capital purchase of Flashbutt Welders by Rail Engineering, the responsibility for Operational Readiness development and execution had been left to individual maintenance teams. This resulted in various forms of maintenance strategy, documents and spares being developed and implemented. Our client engaged EnterpriseIS to ensure that a common approach to maintenance was applied across all assets, allowing the maintenance teams to concentrate on their roles.

THE SOLUTION:

EnterpriseIS worked with the site maintenance teams, to review the current maintenance activities for “similar equipment” and assist in the implementation of new activities for the new equipment.

This included the delivery of the following outcomes:

  1. Development of a skeleton maintenance build with strategies, WIN’s and PMI’s identified and for approval
  2. Develop a Functional Location structure
  3. Gather relevant information (FLOCs/Resources/Plan start dates/Material) for the new maintenance strategy build, to upload into SAP
  4. Develop technical documents (PMI’s) and linkages to strategies within SAP
  5. Develop pictorial Work Instructions with linkages to strategies within SAP and have uploaded into document control
  6. Create BOM’s for stock already in the warehouse and catalogue spare provided by the OEM’s

THE RESULT:

  1. An equipment specific Maintenance strategy that was developed to steer the direction of maintenance on site
  2. Modified schedules for all equipment on site, identifying location, type of activity, associated parts & materials, along with supporting procedures and diagrams
  3. All maintenance documents stored in the same format for use with SAP maintenance tasks.
